God’s Presence

1 Samuel 16:18 Then one of the servants answered and said, “I have seen one of the sons of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who plays the harp skillfully. He is a mighty man, a man of war, eloquent in speech, and handsome in form; and the LORD is with him.” David is an example of someone who was in constant communication with God and was always in His presence. From a young age, he tended his father’s sheep and always praised God with his harp.

In 1 Samuel 16, when Saul was troubled by an evil spirit, Saul’s servants suggested that someone play the harp for Saul to make him feel better. One of the servants suggested bringing David. He said that David “played the harp skillfully. He was a mighty man, a man of war, eloquent in speech, and handsome in form; and the LORD was with him.”

How did David come to have these qualities? Why did the evil spirit leave Saul when David played the harp? The key is in the last part of today's verse. "The Lord was with him." My brothers, let us always be aware that there is God's presence wherever we are. Because the Holy Spirit has lived in us since we believed in the gospel (Ephesians 1:13-14). Then we will see evidence of His presence in our lives. Amen!
