Sing Thanksgiving for His Grace
2 Chronicles 20:21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise the LORD in holy attire as they went out before the army, saying, “Sing thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures forever.” When the enemy before us seems so numerous and impossible to defeat, are we going to be busy looking for help left and right, calling left and right, browsing the internet for all the information available? When the enemy Jehoshaphat faced seemed so numerous, Jehoshaphat sought the Lord, and the Lord told him to be still. Does that mean Jehoshaphat did nothing? Of course not. Rest is not doing nothing. Rest is an activity led by the Spirit. In this verse, Jehoshaphat gathered together praisers to go before his army. Isn’t that strange? Notice what the praisers sang? They sang thanksgiving for God’s steadfast love! The word steadfast love in the original language is Hesed. Hesed is grace. They sing thanksgiving for God's grace!
When we rest, let us speak, let us proclaim His grace. We give thanks about how much He loves us and how great His mercy and kindness is to us. He will provide for us in the face of our enemies. With our hearts we believe, with our mouths we speak, and salvation will occur in our lives. Victory is on our side. Amen!
