Submit to the Obedience of Christ
2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every high thing that sets itself up against the knowledge of God. We take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. This passage speaks of the weapons of spiritual warfare. It says that our warfare is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers of the air. This refers to the devil who tries to get us to take our eyes off Jesus and look at ourselves. There are times when we are bombarded with thoughts that tell us that we are unworthy, that we are not good enough, that we are still sinners. All of our problems are because we have not or have not obeyed. This verse reminds us to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. The original language says ‘to make it obedient to the obedience of Christ.’ Christ was obedient to the point of death on the cross for us. He bore all of our sins, trespasses, and shortcomings. If there is a thought that makes us look at ourselves, bring that thought to the obedience of Christ. Say, “Christ became obedient to the point of death so that I might receive all that God has promised.” Remember that it is not by our own strength or obedience, but by Christ’s obedience that we are made righteous.
