The Secret of Favor
Esther 2:15 When it was Esther’s turn to go in to the king, the daughter of Abihail, the brother of Mordecai’s father, who adopted her, she did not want anything except what Hegai, the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, had recommended. So Esther was able to arouse the affection of all who saw her. When we know that we are very blessed, very favored, and very loved, we do not need to rely on our own efforts as in the story of Esther. While other women relied on the best clothes, perfumes, and accessories to beautify themselves before meeting the king, Esther did not rely on her own abilities but surrendered herself to Hegai, the official who had been appointed by the king to oversee the women, who knew the king’s heart best.
This story shows us how Esther depended completely on God’s favor. When we depend completely on God’s favor, we are trusting in Him. Esther did not have to struggle. When she rested in the Lord and humbled herself, God lifted her up and exalted her above all the other women.
When we humble ourselves and cease our efforts to promote ourselves, and rely on Him, God Himself will promote and elevate us.
